One Tree at a Time: Toronto’s Top 5 Arborists That We Trust!
Being a homeowner means you have to be responsible for every single thing on your property—and that includes maintaining trees for safety. That also means having a number to call once a large and overgrown tree leans a little too close to danger.
It’s a good thing I got lucky with my neighbours because, after a severe storm ravaged my neighbourhood, I needed someone to remove my massive tree before it damaged my home.
That was the time my neighbours came calling—all concerned for each other (no wonder people call Canadians nice). This time, I’m the one in the mood to share the list of arborists I managed to collect who are all highly recommended. Check them out!

Pros
- An all-in-one destination for tree services
- Has a highly experienced team
- Offers free wood chips and mulch
- Can work with large clients
Cons
- Some appointment issues
- No emergency services
What we like about Cohen & Master Tree & Shrub Services is they’re a one-stop destination for any kind of tree service. You don’t have to book another service since they pretty much offer everything tree-related.
Basically, their services are tree removal, tree pruning and maintenance, tree cabling, hedge and shrub maintenance, tree planting, and soil care.
They even offer consulting services for tree assessments, diagnosis, and forest management plans, allowing them to work with large clients, like government agencies.
It’s cool that they also offer free wood chips and mulch. What’s awesome is these aren’t processed or coloured, so you get natural materials for your soil and trees.
These guys are also highly experienced—most of them have over a decade of experience in arboriculture. You’ll also get to work with a certified arborist, which is awesome because you’ll be working with someone knowledgeable.
We were amazed that they could remove tall and huge trees almost like they weren’t heavy at all. And when we spoke with them, they were friendly and professional, which we liked because it definitely cemented a positive experience.
It was just disappointing to hear there were a few issues with appointments (some were cancelled and rescheduled) and they have no emergency services. The good thing is we saw they were pretty consistent with their work, which makes them a good choice.

Pros
- An award-winning company
- Team has master arborists
- Has emergency services
- Provides reasonable prices
- Offers many tree services
Cons
- Occasional miscommunication hiccups
Established in 2006, Heritage Tree Care Inc. is composed of ISA-certified master arborists who are knowledgeable about tree health. Their decades of experience (the owner planted many trees in the Western provinces) make them remarkable.
They don’t shy away from showing their results, too, as they’ve worked on thousands of trees in the GTA since opening. Plus, they’re widely recognized arborists in Toronto.
Moreover, it’s awesome these guys received the Toronto Star Readers’ Choice in 2019 and the HomeStars Best of Award in the same year. Clearly, these show their excellent quality of service.
That’s not all we like because they also offer many services, which are convenient for clients. They have tree removal, tree pruning, tree risk assessment, tree planting, and root zone care.
It’s nice they also offer consulting services for those who need professional advice. This includes expert witness and testimony should you need it for legal disputes.
These arborists even came by in a flash to my friend’s home after a storm, which I later found because they have emergency services. This certainly comes in handy during Toronto’s rainy season.
We did hear about some miscommunication hiccups, but these rarely happen. Even so, they still remain one of our top picks because their top-notch work is partnered with their reasonable prices.

Pros
- Has a wide coverage area
- Prices are reasonable
- Known for thorough cleanup process
- Has a responsive team
Cons
- Has a limited selection of services
- No emergency services
One of our picks is New Toronto Tree Care because of their ISA-certified arborists, ensuring you only get people who are experts in the field. It also makes sure you get a professional service, which comes in handy when distributing reports.
Plus, we appreciate their wide coverage area. It’s awesome they don’t stick to Toronto and Etobicoke only, as they’re also available in the surrounding areas as long as you’re in the GTA.
These arborists provide tree removal, pruning, trimming, and stump grinding. Although that’s enough for some residential clients, we still find their services a tad limited, unlike other arborists on our list.
That said, we like their quality of service. They’re known for being professional and effective despite encountering obstacles during their work.
These guys are also well-known for their thorough cleanup process. Clients we spoke with liked how the team left their property spotless, a quality that’s worth noting.
We also like how responsive they are because we received a message within the day. It’s nice there’s no need to wait a while before getting a response, which comes in handy in case of emergency tree removal.
Although we appreciate them squeezing in clients on the same day, they still don’t have emergency services. But we can let that slide since their prices are competitive.

Pros
- Prices are within the reasonable range
- Appointments are easy to book
- Ideal for residential properties
- Known for consistent work quality
Cons
- Has limited services
- Coverage area is not vast
Mikey’s Tree Care earns a spot on our list because they’re known for their incredible work ethic. We love how consistent their service quality is, which speaks volumes about their dedication to the job.
Clients we spoke with also mentioned their professionalism and effectiveness. This is awesome because it makes the whole experience seamless, which we greatly appreciate.
Service-wise, they offer tree removal, tree pruning, tree assessment, shrub removal, shrub trimming, and fertilisation. These are pretty much what you need for a residential property, but we still find these services limited compared to others in the area.
From what we’ve seen, their arborists are highly trained and can remove branches in high areas. They have no problem working around obstacles, like storm-damaged areas, which have been noted by their previous clients.
The prices are also within the reasonable range in Toronto. In fact, when inquired with them, they gave us one of the lowest quotes in the area.
Plus, we love that they’re easy to book. Even their response to our inquiries were so fast!
It’s just a bummer that their coverage area is not as vast as we hoped it would be. They mainly work in Toronto’s East End, which means other GTA areas will need to look for another arborist.
Still, they remain a solid choice because of their top-tier customer support and work quality.

Pros
- An award-winning company
- Offers a wide range of services
- Provides emergency services
- Prices are competitive
Cons
- Some delayed responses during busy seasons
As an award-winning company, the arborists of The Real Tree Masters Inc. have proven themselves to be capable of doing the job. We think that the recognition they received shows their skills as well.
In 2021, they received the Consumer Choice Award in the Peel Region and the Top Choice Award Mark of Excellence the same year.
These guys work in the GTA, which makes them accessible to many. Plus, they’re like a full-service company, which is awesome since you can hire them for your other tree needs.
Here are their offerings: tree trimming and pruning, tree stump removal, tree planting, tree and shrub fertilisation, integration vegetation management, root pruning and air spading, and plant health care.
We found that they also have arborist consulting services, which come in handy for tree conservation and protection plans. Some friends with commercial properties have even hired them for this and had smooth experiences.
These folks are available for emergencies too. But we did experience some delays during a particularly busy season, so they may need some time to respond since we learned they get many clients after strong storms.
But we found that these hiccups don’t happen often because they immediately responded to our next inquiry.
So they’re still a solid choice, especially with their competitively priced services, which was one of the most affordable estimates we received in the area.
