If you’ve got a yen for some top-notch Italian food in the heart of Scarborough, then hop over to this spot right away. Scaddabush Italian Kitchen & Bar is renowned in the local community for its gorgeous decor, friendly staff, and, of course, its mouth-watering food.
The Scaddabush mozzarella, made fresh on-site every day, is just the right side of gooey and served atop their signature garlic homeloaf. You might want to try the Sunday dinner pappardelle, generously laden with slow-cooked garlic, and rosemary.
Top that off with a glass of their signature sangria, a delightfully fruity accompaniment to round off a hearty meal. Their wood-fired pizzas are also the real stars of the show, though.
It has thin and crispy bases, generous lashings of tomato sauce, is topped with zingy cheeses, and has an array of toppings. And my favourite? The diavola pizza, with its zesty calabrese salami and the right kick of hot chillies
Local tip: Try to grab a table near the window; the views of Scarborough are a real treat. And don’t forget to ask about their daily fresh mozzarella specials! |

The next stop on our culinary adventure is the Prague Restaurant. No, not the city—better, this place serves up hearty and authentic Czech cuisine right here in Scarborough.
Their svičková is like a bear hug in dish form; it’s that comforting. This classic Czech dish is a marinated sirloin served with creamy sauce, cranberries, and a side of bread dumplings.
For the adventurous, their roast duck with sauerkraut and bread dumplings is a sure-fire hit! If you’re like me and have a sweet tooth, you’re going to love their apple strudel.
It is an epic little pastry package of thinly sliced apples, raisins, and a dash of cinnamon, all rolled up and baked. The best part? You can pair it with a pint of their pilsner urquell beer for a real Prague experience.
Local tip: They’re known in the neighbourhood for their super crispy schnitzels, so give it a shot! Bookings are recommended, especially on weekends. |

Remezzo Italian Bistro is a hidden gem right in our Scarborough backyard. This family-run joint will make you feel like you’ve jumped on a plane and landed straight in the heart of Italy.
Go and start off with their arancini, these delicious deep-fried rice balls stuffed with ooey-gooey melted cheese and peas that just hit the right spot. Then, follow up with their Gnocchi Gorgonzola with pear.
Yeah, you heard me right, pear! It’s a delightful little surprise that cuts right through the richness of the sauce. And let’s not even get started on the frutti di mare.
It is like a seafood lover’s dream come true, with mussels, calamari, shrimp, scallops, and clams swimming in a tomato sauce over a bed of linguini. Lastly, one bite of their tiramisu, and I reckon you’ll agree—it certainly gives mamma’s a run for her money.
Local tip: Don’t forget to check out their extensive wine list; it’s something else. And for you night owls, they host live music on weekends. Don’t miss it! |

Now, don’t let the name Moxies Scarborough Restaurant fool you; there’s nothing impudent about this place. Elegant yet relaxed, Moxies has something for everyone.
Their menu, let me tell you, is no joke. Their wings aren’t just wings. They’re dry ribs—slow-cooked, fall-off-the-bone goodness—tossed in your choice of tangy sauce.
Sounds wicked, eh? Trust me, it is. You can also order up their salmon, grilled to perfection and served atop a bed of butternut squash ravioli.
Then wash it all down with their peach bellini. Not your everyday cocktail, this one’s filled with white rum, peach liqueur, sparkling wine, and topped with sangria.
Local tip: Their patio with heat lamps is perfect for those chilly nights. And here’s a bonus: Moxies offers a fixed-price lunch menu during the weekdays, which is a steal! |

Next in line is the ultimate neighbourhood haunt, Jack Astor’s Bar & Grill. This place, dear friends, is where you say cheers to good times.
The atmosphere is so palatable; you can almost taste it—lively chatter, a hint of laughter, and a whole lot of smiles. Their pan bread, friend, is what dreams are made of—baked to perfection and gloriously fluffy that soaks up the garlic and cheese.
The signature buffalo chicken with the blue cheese dip is a crowd-pleaser. You’ll be sold on the first bite—it’s tangy, crispy, and seriously addictive.
Being a bar and grill, you’d be remiss without trying their succulent grills. Go for the AAA sirloin topped with sautéed mushrooms, then pair that with one of their local beers on tap, and you’re in for a treat.
Local tip: Wednesday is wings night! Trust me, you don’t want to miss that. And do try their butter tart—a truly Canadian delight! |

Alrighty, here’s Kathy’s Grill, a humble yet fantastic place that adds a whole lot of gusto to Scarborough’s food scene. Nothing’s screaming fancy here, but the food—oh my, the food!
The moment you enter, the drool-worthy scent of barbecued meat wafts to greet you. Their BBQ chicken, juicy, smoky, and perfectly charred, will just melt in your mouth.
You can pair it with their beans and coleslaw for a balanced bite. Beyond the BBQ, Kathy’s Grill has a surprising secret weapon: their roti roll.
It’s a comforting, spicy mix of curry and shrimp, all wrapped up in a thin roti, bringing a portion of the West Indies to Scarborough.
Local tip: Keep in mind that this is a takeout joint. Also, if you’re a sauce person, don’t be shy; their house-made sauces are a must-try! |

Operating hours:
- Sunday to Thursday – 11 AM to 10 PM
- Friday and Saturday – 11 AM to 11 PM
In The Avenue Restaurant and Lounge, you can enjoy a variety of gastronomic delights while unwinding with some classy music. I reckon their panko-crusted calamari is the top: crispy on the outside, succulently soft inside, complimented by a tangy aioli.
And speaking of must-haves, how about their buttery Atlantic salmon served with citrus beurre blanc? Now that is what you call heaven in a dish.
And hey, if that doesn’t float your boat, the avenue burger hits the mark for everyone I know. It’s Joe beef, cheddar, smoked bacon, and pickles, drenched in avenue sauce, wedged between two glorious buns. Wicked, eh?
Local tip: Their Sunday brunch is legendary, so give it a whirl. Also, check out their cocktail list, particularly the avenue mule—it’s something, alright! |

Moving right along to a slice of Italy in our very own Scarborough—the Fratelli Village Pizzeria—this place is all about good grub, friendly service, and that homely feel that keeps you coming back for more.
Their pizzas, mates, are top-notch. Wood-fired with just the right char. The pizza margherita is simple at its best.
Authentically Italian with fresh basil, mozzarella, and tomato—a combination you can’t go wrong with. Beyond their pizzas, the pasta carbonara is worth a shout.
Creamy, rich, and accented with crispy bacon, it’s the sort of comfort food that would chase away any blues.
Local tip: Don’t forget to try the garlic knots; they’re scrumptious. And although it’s often bustling’, their takeout option is top-notch too! |

Next up is a local favourite: The Keg Steakhouse + Bar. Known for its top-tier steaks and upscale ambiance, it’s the go-to for special occasions or a fancy night out.
Their signature keg prime rib dinner is a beef lover’s dream. Slowly roasted to utmost tenderness and served with your choice of sides, I personally fancy it with the twice-baked potato.
Any cuts cooked to perfection here, it’s just beyond! For seafood fans, the tuna tartare is a zesty delight.
Topped off with gingered sesame dressing, it’s the right blend of savoury and refreshing.
Local tip: Ask for a booth for a cosy, intimate feel. And don’t skip on their famous billy miner pie for dessert—a coffee ice cream treat you won’t forget! |

Last on our food tour is Sammy’s Family Restaurant. Don’t be fooled by the simple setup; this humble joint packs quite the punch in the taste department.
It’s mainly about breakfast here. Try to order their signature Sammy breakfast.
It comes complete with eggs, savoury bacon, crispy hash browns, and toast. Pass the ketchup, and you’re set! Their pancakes, though, are next-level fluffy.
Drizzle on that maple syrup, and you’ve got sugary heaven on a plate. And if you’re after a proper lunch, their meatloaf sandwich never disappoints.
Local tip: If you’re on the run, opt for their takeout; it’s fast and efficient. And be sure to stop by early on weekends, as it can get a little bit busy. |
