The 5 Clinics for the Best Psychotherapists in Montreal to Ease Your Mind’s Chaos

  • Credentials - A counsellor must be qualified to practice psychotherapy, so professional affiliations are a must, like the Ordre des psychologues du Québec (OPQ) or the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
  • Therapy Methods and Specialisation - Counselling isn’t a cookie-cutter solution, so offering a variety of modalities and working with all sorts of issues/conditions and ages can accommodate more clients.
  • Schedule and Flexibility - Flexible schedules can cater to clients of all ages, which the counsellors can provide if their office is open most of the week, and if they offer in-person and telehealth services.
  • Fees - We appreciate reasonable pricing because it makes therapists more accessible. But what’s more important is their transparency, ensuring there are no hidden charges.

When life gets too overwhelming, it’s normal to feel drained. But it gets tiring, doesn’t it? When you’re struggling on the inside, but still have to act like normal at work or at home.

It doesn’t have to be like that. Believe me, I’ve been there. I’ve struggled with anxiety and coped in a not-so-healthy way—and it just pulled me down harder.

If you feel like you’re falling, don’t worry, we’re here to help. Here are the top psychotherapists in Montreal we trust, where every session is a safe space for your innermost thoughts.

Therapy sessions with Paul Jozsef Counselling & Coaching, a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), have been pleasant through and through. It’s to be expected, as he’s a psychotherapist in Montreal who specialises in a multitude of concerns.

Some of his focus areas are anger management, anxiety, depression, and men’s issues. Additionally, he offers psychedelic and ketamine integration counselling for those who need non-judgmental psychological support for these experiences.

His strategy reeled us in, where most clients appreciated the collaborative environment that centred on them. Every session feels calm because you can take your time speaking about mental health struggles and move at a pace that feels safe.

Jozsef mainly works with adults and older teens (16+), which is great, but still a shame he can’t accept other clients. That said, he offers virtual and in-person sessions at his Westmount office, which is a hop, skip, and a jump from the metro.

He tops it off with his reasonable pricing that won’t break the bank, even when you book an evening counselling session.

Pros

  • Non-judgmental psychological support
  • Collaborative environment
  • Offers psychedelic and ketamine integration counselling
  • Accessible office; close to the metro
  • Available for evening sessions
  • Reasonable pricing

Cons

  • Doesn’t work with younger teens

Direct, calm, and constructive

“I reached out to Paul for anger and relationship issues. He is direct, calm, and constructive. I became more aware of what was driving my reactions and learned how to handle them better. Strong option for men’s mental health support in Montreal.”

Michael Gormans, Google Review

Warm, open, non-judgmental, empathetic, supportive, and kind

“Paul’s worked with me on a number of issues, both personal and professional. I’ve come to develop a real trust in, and appreciation for, his authenticity, knowledge, experience and skill. He’s warm, open, non-judgmental, empathic, supportive and kind— yet, aptly challenges me towards greater self-reflection and awareness, as well as the development of more effective coping and communication. I highly recommend Paul to anyone wanting to help themselves through their difficulties.”

Adrienne Durst brings a unique approach to counselling, where sessions don’t feel too formal or mechanical. Instead, she radiates a welcoming energy that makes being vulnerable feel safe—and that is why she’s one of our top psychotherapists in Montreal.

She’s a member of the OPQ who specialises in women’s issues and welcomes non-binary individuals and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

In fact, her clients appreciated the woman-centred approach to their psychotherapy sessions by listening, supporting, and understanding them without putting their issues in a box.

We want to highlight her main focus: the sacred feminine, a holistic approach that brings together the body and the mind, and helps women reconnect with themselves. Ceremonies for healing and reflection are held at times, but with limited slots.

Durst’s genuineness impressed us, as she can make the most reserved individuals feel safe, so much so that even her vulnerable clients felt comfortable opening up about their worst struggles.

Pros

  • Specialises in women’s issues
  • Inclusive space
  • Uses a holistic approach
  • Focuses on the sacred feminine
  • Woman-centred approach

Cons

  • Ceremonies have limited spots

Empathetic and well-attuned

“Adrienne is a gem. She is such an empathetic and well attuned therapist that offers great advice and tools. She truly wants the best for her clients and you can feel that in every session. She has a great sense of calm and comfort about her that makes you quickly trust her and dive into the process. I’ve been seeing her for less than a year now and I can honestly say that she’s helped me a great deal. We all need an Adrienne in our lives!”

Sandra Huynh, Google Review

Very knowledgeable and takes a holistic approach

“From our very first session together Adrienne left a solid impression on me. She is very knowledgeable and takes a holistic approach. She is down to earth with a very warm personality that makes you feel at ease right away; she is also able to balance this out with a good sense of professionalism. Adrienne is attentive and makes you feel listened to in a way that leaves you feeling lighter. Therapy can be a lot of work and can stir things up internally but having someone guide you as well as Adrienne does, really makes the process much smoother. I really enjoy our sessions and the growth and improvement I notice in myself as a result. Highly recommended!”

One of our most trusted counselling clinics in Montreal caters to individuals, couples, and families. The Wellness Collective Centre has become one of our safe spaces that offers effective therapy methods in Montreal.

For example, they have a client-centered approach, which many have noted made them feel safe opening up about their mental and emotional struggles. Plus, their focus area is impressively diverse, including personality disorders and psychotic disorders.

We were also pleased with their specialised services, such as Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and eating disorder treatment, both of which come with unique challenges and an evidence-based approach.

It doesn’t matter whether you receive counselling in person, online, or via phone—the strategy remains effective, based on what we’ve seen. However, in-person sessions are offered in limited slots.

All these good things weren’t a shock, as they have an OPQ-registered psychotherapist educated in psychology and mental health counselling. But due to their specialised training in complex concerns, there’s sometimes a week’s wait to set up a schedule.

Pros

  • Client-centred approach
  • Educated in psychology and mental health counselling
  • Experienced in complex concerns
  • Open for in-person, online, and phone consults
  • Offers specialised services

Cons

  • A week’s wait for an appointment at times
  • In-person sessions are limited

Compassionate therapists

“Compassionate therapists, welcoming atmosphere, I can’t say enough good things about this therapy clinic! Bianca, in particular, brings such a grounded, empathetic presence that makes you feel truly seen and supported”

Daphne Pungartnik, Google Review

Very thoughtful and cares a lot

“Bianca Pungartnik is amazing and kind, she’s helps people really get in touch with themselves. She’s very thoughtful and  cares a lot. I hope everyone gets to experience time with her for the simple fact that she’s a wonderful person and can help you see you through her eyes. She empowers you to go forward in life with a smile and helps you look forward to living your life. I spent some of my worst days with her and left her company feeling understood and valued as well as heard and appreciated. I would even say she gave me great life lessons and advice on how to problem solve and so much more. I could never have saw myself looking to someone for guidance until I met her.”

Open seven days a week, West Island Therapy and Wellness Centre houses a large team of professionals. Their staff includes psychotherapists and psychologists who specialise in adult, teen, and child counselling.

In addition, they offer individual, couples, family, and group therapy sessions. We think it’s safe to say that they’ve got a solution for every problem—not all, but most. You see, they help with all sorts of life challenges, behavioural issues, and family conflicts.

Furthermore, they’re qualified to perform diagnostic assessments, making way for more accurate counselling strategies. More impressively, they can offer a variety of evaluations, whether for psychoeducational, psychological, or neurological disorders.

A highly qualified team, no? The drawback is the reduced availability of their psychologists and psychotherapists, which their clients have noted can take weeks or months.

Nonetheless, they’re worth the wait. They do have several psychotherapists on the team who can accommodate all age groups.

The cherry on top? The multilingual team! Aside from English and French, you can receive counselling in Spanish, Hindi, and Punjabi.

Pros

  • Open daily
  • Large team of professionals
  • Qualified to perform diagnostic assessments
  • Multilingual team
  • Accommodates all age groups

Cons

  • Weeks’ wait for a schedule

Compassionate, supportive, and non-judgmental

“Lisa Brookman has been my therapist for 15 years. She is compassionate, supportive and non judgmental.  Lisa has proven to me time and time again that psychotherapy is effective and with the right therapist, real growth is possible. If I could give her and the clinic 10 stars I would; West Island Therapy Centre is patient-focused and has always made a safe space for anyone who walks through the clinic doors.”

We simply had to include Dr. Arianna Yakirov, a registered clinical psychologist and member of the OPQ. She specialises in individual and couples counselling, where she blends psychological and holistic therapy methods.

Her strategy impressed us, as she can work on a variety of concerns, such as anxiety, self-sabotage, and anger. Most of all, her psychotherapy practice is inclusive, catering to the LGBTQ+ community, where she focuses on gender fluidity and sexual identity.

We were completely blown away by her expertise, which includes advanced training in specialised services. She’s qualified to offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Action and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Therapy.

Her over 20 years in the industry have given her more than enough experience to work with all types of individuals. And based on what we’ve seen, she provides a safe and peaceful space where even those hesitant about therapy have opened up.

Her practice is busy, though. At times, her client list gets too full, so she temporarily won’t accept new ones.

Pros

  • Mixes psychological and holistic strategies
  • Inclusive practice
  • Trained for specialised therapy methods
  • Can work with all types of people

Cons

  • Client roster gets full

Has made such a positive impact on my life

“Dr. Yakirov has made such a positive impact on my life, and I am so grateful. She has helped me tremendously with my personal growth and navigating life’s challenges. I truly feel like cares and she understands me. Our sessions are always productive and her wisdom is unmatched.”

Amanda M., Google Review

Created a space that felt safe and open

“From our very first session, I felt comfortable with Arianna. She created a space that felt safe and open, and I quickly sensed that she truly understood me and the struggles I’ve been carrying. What stands out most is how intuitively she reads into my challenges and gently offers perspectives I hadn’t been able to see on my own. Her warmth and friendliness make every session feel supportive, and I genuinely feel well taken care of in her presence.”
