1. Alexandra’s Pizza Grafton Street

Website: https://alexandraspizza.com
Address: 1735 Grafton St, Halifax, NS B3J 2C6, Canada
Contact: 902-425-1900 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday to Wednesday: 11:00 AM–2:00 AM | Thursday: 11:00 AM–3:00 AM | Friday and Saturday: 11:00 AM–4:00 AM | Sunday: 11:00 AM–2:30 AM
The beloved downtown staple Alexandra’s Pizza built its reputation on its signature poutine selection—think decadent donair and Greek variations—alongside massive family protein packs. I vividly remember tearing into their intensely cheesy, gravy-soaked donair poutine after a long night out, and it instantly satisfied my cravings.
It’s a fantastic haven for hungry groups. Their structured party bundles efficiently combine large pies and crispy wings at scaled pricing.
If you’re navigating dietary restrictions, they explicitly accommodate plant-based eaters with specialized vegan garlic fingers and dairy-free cheese alternatives.
Just be aware that standard six-piece orders of basic fried appetizers carry steep individual price tags. Furthermore, simple dipping condiments like a cup of gravy aren’t complimentary and require an add-on fee.

I don’t give 5 easily but this paneer tikka pizza deserves it! I felt quite ok and didn’t have any expectations while ordering since it’s the first time for me to order here… and when I opened to put the seasoning I got disappointed to see the amount of cilantro garnish on the top of the pizza. To my surprise when I went home and tried it tasted really good and the quantity of toppings did justice. My whole family enjoyed it. Hoping to have the same quality forever. Thanks! Oh and it was quick too😅

3. Salvatore’s Pizzaiolo Trattoria

Website: https://www.salvatorespizza.ca/
Address: 5541 Young St, Halifax, NS B3K 1Z7, Canada
Contact: 455-1133 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday: 4:00 PM–10:00 PM | Tuesday to Saturday: 11:30 AM–10:00 PM
Salvatore’s Pizzaiolo Trattoria truly sticks to tradition, proudly rejecting modern delivery apps in favor of old-school phone ordering. This iconic eatery built its loyal following on an original thin crust brushed with garlic-infused oil and a dedicated menu of gourmet white pizzas.
During my last visit, I was thoroughly impressed by their Northern Italian four-cheese pie; the specialized egg-based mixture of ricotta and romano was undeniably luxurious.
Moving well beyond standard toppings, adventurous diners can explore highly specialized seafood creations like their legendary marinated skipjack tuna pies. They also beautifully accommodate progressive dietary adjustments, providing vegan ricotta cheese or vegetarian portobello sausages upon request.
However, you must respect the chef’s vision, as customers ordering from the specialized white pizza menu are explicitly barred from making ingredient substitutions. Furthermore, specific gourmet pies are unavailable to order in the restaurant’s largest fifteen-inch format.

Their Vegan Pizza is made with love and great for a hot / beach day. We also got the Garlic infused with Mushrooms that was veganized for us and did not disappoint! Staff is kind and friendly but the only thing that I was disappointed there’s no substitutions on there pizza, I get you want to change your integrity of your pies but if I wanted a pizza with no cheese it’s my choice! Food for thought that’s all, place was packed you need to order your pizza in advance for take out or make reservations to eat in.

This is hands down the best pizza you can find in Halifax. Hot, crispy, and delicious, always leaves you wanting more. The lounge is a little loud, but still worth it to get the pizza straight out of the oven.

4. Lou Pécou Pizzeria

Website: https://www.lou-pecou.ca/
Address: 5567 Cunard St, Halifax, NS
Contact: 902-423-0300 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday to Thursday: 4:00 PM–9:00 PM | Friday to Saturday: 4:00 PM–10:00 PM | Sunday: 4:00 PM–9:00 PM
Led by a professionally trained pizzaiolo from Marseille, Lou Pécou Pizzeria crafts highly digestible pizzas using a proprietary mix of organic flours and a slow fermentation process. Instead of heavy Italian-American profiles, their menu incorporates traditional French cheeses like raclette de Savoie to create a truly distinctive tasting experience.
Vegan diners are treated with exceptional care, as the kitchen thoughtfully crafts its own house-made vegan mozzarella and spicy calabrese. They even offer a unique catering service, bringing immersive mobile pizza ovens directly to your outdoor events for fresh baking.
Keep in mind that securing this interactive mobile service requires a steep base fee that strictly excludes the actual cost of the food. Additionally, despite offering gluten-friendly crust substitutions, the kitchen actively handles various allergens and explicitly warns against potential cross-contamination risks.

Being from New York it’s hard to have pizza anywhere else but this place caught my eye. We had a wonderful melon salad that was very well balanced and was like nothing I’ve ever tasted before. The pizza was pretty good, but what gave it life was a spicy oil that they give you on the side. Really brings things to life!

Voted the best pizza across Canada and now I know why! The pie crust to perfection and they even have vegan pizza. Enjoyable atmosphere with great vibes, also a great chef with a sous chef that bring a smile to the patrons. Vegan or not you have to try this place in your life time. Did I mention the salad WOW and the hot sauce that’s the hidden gem!

5. Trattoria Vesso

Website: https://www.trattoriavesso.ca/
Address: 1299 Hollis St, Halifax, NS B3J 1T7, Canada
Contact: 902-406-0909 | [email protected]
Hours: Sunday to Thursday: 11:30 AM–9:00 PM | Friday to Saturday: 11:30 AM–10:00 PM
Trattoria Vesso is the only restaurant in Nova Scotia officially certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana. They meticulously craft wood-fired pizzas and daily hand-stretched pastas using premium double-zero organic Canadian flours.
If you prefer dining at home, their specialized line of fresh packaged pizzas allows you to bake that signature wood-fired flavor directly in your own oven. They also explicitly cater to varying dietary needs by offering dedicated vegetarian options and comprehensive lunch bundles.
Unfortunately, elevating a standard salad or pasta dish with additional proteins incurs surprisingly steep a la carte fees. Guests opting for lactose-free or plant-based cheese alternatives will also face premium add-on charges inflated above standard menu pricing.

Friendly staff, quality service and food. I enjoyed their Margherita pizza and a delicious dessert they had (A little pricey though). Unfortunately I didn’t have the chance to try their pistachio tiramisu, but they had one and that is my next if I pass by Halifax again:)

I had an incredible Birthday dinner at Trattorio Vesso last evening (February 28th) with my brother and niece. Having recently become gluten-free, I have found it challenging to find great pizza. Look no further, the pizza is incredible! So, if you are someone who can’t have gluten and adore pizza, this is a brilliant place to dine. Staff is lovely and incredibly accommodating, and everything on the menu is delicioso!
