Patiently Overcoming Obstacles for Adult Learners

My desire to learn to play an instrument came later in life….I tried a number of times with varying results with different instructors.  I stumbled across Anna’s Soul Strings after deciding to give it another attempt. My technique wasn’t my problem….it was overcoming obstacles that were holding me back from actually learning songs. She has demonstrated extreme patience and shown me how to overcome the obstacles that have been holding me back.

Highly Recommended for Returning Cello Students

I learnt the cello growing up to an intermediate level but had not played in over 10 years. Anna helped me immensely with various new techniques I had not done before. She is very methodical and disciplined in her approach yet also very empathetic and kind. I never felt judged for playing ‘poorly’ and always felt very encouraged. She is a great teacher!!

Amazing School with Professional Educators and Recitals

The place is beautiful, and the teachers are both demanding and incredibly kind with the children : true professionals and educators who help them make real progress. There are opportunities for children to play in ensembles or groups, and you can also attend recitals throughout the year (which are wonderful). In short, it’s amazing!!

Great Kinder Music Teachers and Personalized Attention

I can only speak on the kinder music program here, but it is great. The teachers are wonderful with each and every child. Classes are relatively small, so each student gets their own attention given to them. Lots of movement, songs, musical instruments to try out and play with. A story is read in each session to go along with the theme. There are books for the children to take home as well.

A Gem: Great Community and Engaged Learning

I have so enjoyed seeing all of the community that Scotia Suzuki school has brought our family. The teachers, director and students are all learning to play music from different cultures and engaged with those that they are learning alongside. Such a gem!

Thriving Musician with Patient and Supportive Teachers

Our 9 year old son started taking piano lessons at Suzuki when he was 7 and it’s been an incredible experience! His teachers are patient, supportive, and encouraging. He has grown so much as a musician and just celebrated learning his entire book 1 with a concert the school coordinated just for him, which was such a lovely night to celebrate his hard work! We love Suzuki and our son is thriving!

Folks looking for a relaxed environment will love the non-auditioned 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual) community choir hosted by the Chelsi Madonna School of Music.

This studio places a strong emphasis on creative expression through unique group improvisation sessions. Kids can even join a dedicated pop performance program to learn teamwork by designing costumes and singing live.

The educators actively integrate their community choirs into local outreach events.

However, while the primary studio is in Halifax, the daytime community choir meets off-site in Dartmouth. It’s also important to note that the kids’ pop group also restricts participants to a narrow three-year age window.

Nonetheless, finding an inclusive space like Chelsi Madonna to explore vocal talents is crucial for many marginalized groups. If you’re a fan of collaborative community events, you might also be interested in upcoming music festivals in Alberta.

Pros

  • Complimentary 25-minute introductory session
  • Flexible sliding scale fee options
  • Half-hour lesson bookings available
  • Professionally trained and certified educators

Cons

  • Narrow age restrictions for kids
  • Off-site choir rehearsals in Dartmouth

Increased Vocal Range and Agility at 72

I’m 72 years old and have been taking voice lessons from Chelsi for 10 months. She has helped me to add 5 or 6 semitones to the top of my range and 2 or 3 to the bottom. She also has me singing with more colour, presence and agility, while using less effort. She is irrepressibly cheerful, enthusiastic, and supportive, and she likes to have a laugh.  The lessons are always a bright spot in my week. You will be hard pressed to find a better voice teacher.

Amazing Voice Lessons, Increased Confidence and Range

I have been taking voice lessons from Chelsi for 5 months. It has been an amazing experience. Chesli’s enthusiasm, support and encouragement have been instrumental in my increased confidence and singing ability. She has helped me increase my vocal range and volume. More importantly she has welcomed me into the community of music and musicians that she has created as part of her school which has greatly enriched my life. Chelsi’s voice lessons are so much fun and they are the highlight of my week.

Wonderful Introduction to Music for Young Children

Merry Time Music has been nothing but a positive experience for my 5 year old daughter. It has been a wonderful introduction to music for her. Cat is an energetic and enthusiastic teacher who has a gift for working with young children and keeping them engaged. She is patient and supportive during all parts of the lesson. My daughter looks forward to her lesson with Cat every week. She adores Cat and has a lot of fun learning from her.
