Pros
- Has an extensive selection
- Carries many jewellery designers
- Offers jewellery transformation
- Has a wide price range
- Provides a 10-year guarantee
Cons
- Store closed on Sundays
La Maison d’Or Jewellers is one of our choices because of how long they’ve been in the business. They opened in Hawkesbury, Ontario, in 1949, then moved to Ottawa 30 years later.
Upon entering the store, we were greeted by a luxurious space—kind of like the one you see in rom-coms. It certainly adds a charm to the whole shopping (or window-shopping) experience, especially with the friendly staff.
But what’s impressive is we found out they carry selections from nine jewellery designers. This list includes Tacori, Maple Leaf Diamonds, and Zeghani.
We also love that there are thousands of jewelry pieces to browse through, from rings to ankle bracelets. In addition, there are plenty of stones and metals to choose from.
During our research, we became fond of their jewellery transformation service, where clients can bring one or more jewellery pieces. After the design consultation, La Maison d’Or Jewellers will transform the jewellery into a one-of-a-kind piece.
Custom jewellery is also available. But what makes them stand out is they will create a 3D-printed model for a more realistic look before the goldsmith starts witht he final product.
Regarding the cost, we love the wide range of prices. Pendants and chains can start at $60 to $100 and the finest pieces will cost thousands.
Another impressive thing is their 10-year guarantee against damage and loss of diamonds. We found their policy pretty comprehensive and offers protection for the buyer.
But here’s the catch: La Maison d’Or Jewellers isn’t open on Sundays. It was a bummer, especially for clients with busy work days.

Pros
- Has three locations
- Has reasonable prices
- Wide range of selection
- Offers permanent jewellery
- Recycles materials
- Offers flat rate shipping in Canada
Cons
- Store pickup not available at Rideau
- Some complaints about customer support
An Ottawa jeweller that captured our interest is Magpie Jewellery because they’re easily accessible with three shops in Ottawa: Glebe, Rideau, and Westboro. All locations are also open on weekends, which is great news for clients with busy work schedules.
We were impressed with Magpie Jewellery’s selection, which includes fine jewellery, bridal pieces, coloured gemstones, and affordable everyday wear. We found the price points reasonable, too.
Furthermore, our team found their everyday wear collection unbearably cute. There are plenty of designs for all ages and interests, like hedgehogs and ramen noodle earrings.
Something to highlight is their permanent jewellery made from sterling silver, 14K gold, or gold fill. Bracelets, anklets, and necklaces won’t have clasps since they’re supposed to last forever, and we love that these are made on the spot.
It’s also important to note that Magpie Jewellery has ethical standards by recycling materials as much as they can. Our findings also revealed they only source diamonds and gemstones from ethical partners.
However, it was disappointing to hear complaints about customer support. During our surveys, we heard some were saddened by the inconsistent quality of service they received, but we appreciate the action taken by Magpie Jewellery.
Finally, regarding shipping, it’s nice that they offer flat rates for Canada orders. Plus, we like that store pickups are available, although that’s not available at the Rideau shop.

Pros
- Offers vintage pieces
- One-of-a-kind collection designed in-house
- Offers pawprint jewellery
- No aggressive sales talk
Cons
- Ring sizes are limited
- Closed on weekends
What we love about Dixon Jewelleries is they’ve been around for over 50 years. For us, that speaks volumes about their expertise and knowledge.
During our surveys, we found that the staff doesn’t work on commissions. Because of this, we learned that their staff isn’t pushy but friendly and professional and doesn’t engage in aggressive sales talk.
We also love their selection, which includes white gold and 14K gold. The collection includes rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets to choose from.
However, it’s a bummer that sizing options for selected rings are limited. While clients can ask for a different ring size, it’s not guaranteed.
But a cool collection we found is their vintage pieces. We like the unique designs, particularly the brooches from their estate collection.
In addition, Dixon Jewelleries has a one-of-a-kind collection made by their in-house design team. And we like that the prices range from less than a hundred to thousands, depending on the material and design.
Pet lovers (like us) will be happy to check out their pawprint jewellery collection, which starts at $175. It’s easy to order, too, because clients only need to email their pet’s pawprint and email it to the jewellers.
We also love the warranty, including free cleaning and polishing. They also have a lifetime manufacturer warranty in case of defects.
It was a little iffy that appointments need to be scheduled on weekdays only. Sadly, their shop doesn’t have weekend hours.

Pros
- Has a large collection of vintage pieces
- Offers vintage jewellery restoration
- Caters to different budgets
- Has moissanite jewellery
- Repairs are done on-site
Cons
- No weekend hours
True Bijoux, a female-owned jewellery store in Ottawa, made it to our list because of their impressive collection. During our visits, we noticed that there’s a huge selection of unique pieces that can cater to different styles and preferences.
One of their main collections is their vintage jewellery, which they’ve been offering since 2006. We found that all of their vintage pieces are curated by experts, ensuring all are genuine.
Moreover, we were delighted to know that they have many vintage pieces, which include estate collections. We also love the intricacy of the designs, which we believe adds a uniqueness to any outfit.
Since they offer vintage jewellery, we were thrilled to learn that they do restorations. We learned that vintage jewellery restoration is not an easy task, so we commend True Bijoux for their knowledge of it.
True Bijoux also specializes in engagement and wedding jewellery. Upon checking it out, we were thrilled to see diamonds, gemstones, and the more affordable moissanite, allowing clients to choose a piece (or pieces) that fits their budget.
We also found that repairs are done on-site by their goldsmiths, which deserves applause. It’s good news since the client’s jewellery won’t be passed to another shop.
All good things must come to an end, though. We just have one issue with this Ottawa jewellery shop: they don’t have weekend hours, which is unfortunate for busy clients.
5. Moissy Fine Jewellery

Products: Rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, wedding bands

Pros
- Specializes in moissanite
- Has 300 styles
- Moissanite is carefully sourced
- Engagement rings include a cleaning pen
Cons
- Prices are above average
- Closed on Sundays
One of the things we like about Moissy Fine Jewellery is that they specialize in moissanite jewellery. When we checked the store, we were impressed with the craftsmanship.
We also like that clients get to pick from a selection of materials to pair the moissanite with. There’s platinum and 14K and 18K gold, which come in several colours to match different references.
But just because they only sell moissanite doesn’t mean there’s a small collection of jewellery. We found that there are 300 styles, and they’re elegant, as per our client surveys.
Moissy Fine Jewellery’s products include rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. What’s nice is we learned that all engagement rings come with a free cleaning pen—convenient!
But here’s the deal: there aren’t many pieces that cost less than $600. Ultimately, we found their collection to be a little more expensive than other jewellery stores in Ottawa.
Nonetheless, we learned that many clients were happy with the different price points. Most shopped for wedding and engagement rings, and they liked that the prices matched the quality of the jewellery and overall customer service.
Our findings also showed that all of their moissanite is carefully sourced. Due to this, we commend them for sticking to ethical standards in the jewellery business.
Another reason we like them is the 1-year warranty. This includes tightening loose stones, repairs, and one complimentary re-sizing.
Overall, we believe Moissy Fine Jewellery is a good option for fine pieces. Just don’t go to their store on Sundays because they’re closed—but you can come by on Saturdays.
