Pros
- Award-winning law firm
- Provides family law mediation
- Transparent about the fees
- Thorough consultations
Cons
- No free consultations
YLaw earned a spot on our list because we were impressed by how successful they are as a law firm. Evidence of this is the awards they’ve received over the years.
For four years, they won the Fastest Growing Companies by The Globe and Mail, including in 2023. Impressively, their founder, Leena R. Yousefi, was named the 2020 Legal Rising Star of Canada and was one of the Top 25 Lawyers in Canada in 2018.
One of their specializations is family law, and it certainly helps they have a pretty large team of lawyers who can brainstorm together to find the best solutions for your problem. In fact, it’s part of their strategy to ensure the best possible outcome for your case.
Moreover, we found it impressive that they focus on complex cases, including child abduction and high net-worth assets. For us, this speaks about their incredible skills and knowledge of family law.
Plus, we commend them for providing family law mediators. It’s a really good service for us because it focuses on a peaceful outcome for both parties.
We also appreciate their thorough consultations. It’s nice that YLaw family lawyers will carefully look into the case and provide guidance to their clients—some even said their lawyers showed emotional support.
But here’s the kicker: their consultations are not free. They charge anywhere from $250 to $500 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s seniority and expertise.
Nevertheless, we appreciate their transparency regarding the cost. In our opinion, it shows their honesty to clients.

Pros
- Offers free initial consultations
- Provides in-person and virtual consultations
- Focuses solely on family law
- Has many lawyers
- Has mediators and legal coaches
Cons
- Slightly on the pricier side
One of the things we like about Crossroads Law is they solely focus on family law. In our opinion, it speaks about their extensive knowledge in the field, whether that’s about divorce, child support, or property division.
They have a pretty long list of lawyers, which we found helpful as they can cater to more clients at once. It’s also nice they have mediators and certified legal coaches on the team because they can help provide the best possible legal outcome.
Additionally, their mediation services make them stand out for us. We found this service really helpful for clients looking for a more cost-effective solution to resolve marital disputes.
Moreover, the mediators provide in-person and virtual consultations. It’s convenient for busy clients since there’s no pressure to commute to Crossroads Law’s office.
Speaking of consultations, we were thrilled to learn they offer free initial consultations. After that, the more thorough meeting will have a starting rate of $250 per hour, depending on the lawyer.
We highly suggest looking into the free consultation since their senior family lawyer has a higher fee of $525 per hour. Unfortunately, we found that slightly pricey than other family lawyers on our list.
Still, they compensate for their outstanding service. From our surveys, past clients were happy about their lawyers laying out all the facts before making the final decision.
Also, it’s worth highlighting that Crossroads Law has a very responsive and compassionate team. That’s really important for us because family issues can be complex and difficult to navigate.

Pros
- Focuses on family law
- Conveniently located
- Fair legal fees
- Offers hourly rates and retainers
Cons
- Small team of lawyers
Over a decade ago, RWE Family Law was established. For us, that’s a pretty long time to be in the industry, and we think it shows their expertise in helping resolve family legal issues.
Another aspect we like is their location in downtown Vancouver. It makes them accessible to commuters, which is convenient for those who live far away.
RWE Family Law specializes in divorce, family property, spousal and child support, prenups, and many more facets of family law. Since their sole focus is on family cases, we think it gives them more experience when handling complicated cases.
In fact, many clients have asked for their help regarding complex issues. And we’re glad to say that based on our surveys, RWE Family Law has competent, supportive, and professional lawyers.
Additionally, we like that their lawyers were always dependable. They were also punctual and are known to have great attention to detail, and we believe that’s a massive advantage to avoid possible delays in legal proceedings.
But something we noticed is despite having a decade in the field, they still have a small team. For us, that’s a minor drawback because it limits their availability.
On the flip side, we found their rates pretty reasonable for Vancouver. The lawyer’s fees are $250 to $450 per hour, while the retainer is $5,000 for litigation—and for transparency, they always provide a clear breakdown of fees.
