  • Has a professional deck designer
  • Offers live revisions

Cons

  • Has higher rates
  • Closed on weekends

What’s so good about Blue Chip Decks? They provide both aesthetics and functionality with every job!

Why do we say that? Well, Blue Chip Decks was a Grand Prize winner for Star Building’s Manitoba’s Best Deck for 2021! Impressed?

They specialize in various kinds of decking materials. We find that helpful as it gives you more options to choose from, including maintenance-free ones!

Additionally, they provide powder-coated aluminum deck railings for safety. These come in black, white, and oil-rub bronze, which we think adds a sophisticated appeal.

Furthermore, they specialize in using wood, composite, and Duradek vinyl. It also allows you to find one that will best fit your budget range.

Speaking of budget, building decks can be a costly investment. That’s why we were glad Blue Chip Decks offers financing options, which is helpful as they have slightly higher prices.

They partnered with Desjardins Financial for flexible financing plans. Also, they can lend up to $30,000 with low-interest rates—useful if you need big decks!

As for the warranty, we appreciate the 2 years for workmanship. Another we like is their 2-year no-movement warranty for their 10′ premium screw piles.

But what about the designs for aesthetic appeal? We were pleasantly surprised they have a professional deck designer!

Moreover, we like that they offer full 3D design videos to give you a more realistic look. What’s even better is they provide live revisions so you can decide on the changes you want.

Can we just say that we love their designs? We admire them for creating and building beautiful and functional decks.

Unfortunately, Blue Chip Decks doesn’t take weekend appointments. That was a bummer, especially if you work on weekdays.

Pros

  • 3x winner of Best of Houzz Awards
  • A+ BBB rating
  • Worked with big companies
  • Offers many privacy decking options

Cons

  • No weekend appointments

As a BBB-accredited business, Winnipeg Deck and Rail won our approval due to their focus on addressing client complaints. It helps that they earned an A+ rating from the BBB!

Their recognition caught our attention as well. They won the Best of Houzz Awards in 2016, 2017, and 2018! It’s impressive!

Plus, we admire their status as trusted deck builders recognized by several companies. Some of these are Randall Homes, Gino’s Homes, Daytona Homes, and Ventura Custom Homes.

One of the things that impressed us again is their focus on providing clients with privacy. That’s because they offer a lot of privacy options for your outdoor space!

We also like how they offer many railings and privacy wall options to match your deck and house. They even offer glass railings (available in frosted and tinted), which we think add an elegant touch to your property.

Now, what about functionality and durability? We were happy to find out that Winnipeg Deck and Rail uses high-quality materials that can withstand the city’s weather changes!

Furthermore, we believe their efficiency is unmatched! The clients we conversed with even praised the installers for exceeding their expectations.

There’s a minor downside, however. Winnipeg Deck and Rail doesn’t accept weekend appointments, which doesn’t help busy bees, eh?

Pros

  • Competitively priced
  • Uses pressure-treated wood
  • Removes and disposes old decks
  • Provides 10-year workmanship warranty
  • Donates on-site estimate fees to an animal shelter

Cons

  • Unavailable for Saturday and Sunday appointments

Squirrel Construction gained our admiration due to their commitment to the field. The owner and “Chief Squirrel,” Derek Law, had been passionate about woodworking since he was in school!

Law expanded his “squirrel team” and now builds decks, fences, and gates. It’s a one-stop destination for your outdoor space!

The Squirrel Construction team earns points in our book for sticking to high-quality materials. They use pressure-treated wood, which is durable and repels bugs and insects!

Their thorough services are pretty incredible, in our opinion. They will take care of the necessary building permits for a hassle-free project.

Additionally, we appreciate that their service includes removing and disposing of old decks. This includes other structures in your yard, such as fences and sheds—convenient, eh?

Another that we believe deserves applause is their warranty. It’s 10 years for craftsmanship, which is much longer than other Winnipeg deck builders!

Price-wise, we find their rates impressive! Some clients even mentioned that Squirrel Construction was one of the best quotes they received!

Don’t worry, because their quality remains top-notch despite the competitive prices. Our client surveys showed impeccable workmanship, good customer service, and professionalism!

They are unavailable for Saturday and Sunday appointments, unfortunately. But we like that, depending on availability, they can squeeze you in for a quote.

Lastly, we commend Squirrel Construction for donating on-site estimate fees to Darcy’s A.R.C., an animal rescue center. That’s pretty generous, in our opinion.

Pros

  • Open on Saturdays
  • Uses premium-grade pressure-treated lumber
  • Lots of fencing options
  • Offers financing options

Cons

  • Some issues with installation

Excellence Fences & Decks earns a spot on our list of the best deck builders in Winnipeg. Why? It’s because of their top-notch workmanship!

Let’s start with their services, which include decks and fences. That’s not all; we like their wide coverage, including both residential and commercial clients!

Additionally, we like that they provide 3D designs for each project. It gives a realistic visual representation, which is useful if you need to make any changes.

Another worth mentioning is their exclusive use of high-quality materials. That’s an essential aspect of deck building to withstand hot and freezing seasons!

We like that they specifically use premium-grade pressure-treated lumber. Why? It’s durable against the elements and resistant to moisture and insects!

Also, we appreciate that they offer a lot of fencing options to match your deck and home’s exterior. They have wood, vinyl, and iron for any budget range.

About prices, building a new deck can be costly, especially if it’s a big project. Excellence Fences & Decks has financing options available for clients with budget constraints.

Moreover, the good thing about that is the flexible monthly payments. No need to shell out a large sum at once for your new outdoor space!

Schedule-wise, we like that Excellence Fences & Decks is available six days a week. They are open on Saturdays, which is good news for busy clients.

A minor issue is some reports of gaps in the decks. Nonetheless, we value their exceptional customer service in promptly resolving these concerns.

Pros

  • BBB-accredited business
  • Offers a wide range of services
  • Has a showroom
  • Offers 3 or more design proposals
  • Accepts appointments outside regular hours

Cons

  • Unavailable on weekends
  • Expensive rates
  • Some complaints about customer service

As a BBB-accredited business, Deck City is on our list due to their client-focused approach. The accreditation also ensures they will address any complaints promptly.

One of our favourite things is their wide range of services. it’s ideal for outdoor space renovations!

Aside from designing and building decks, they also provide shades, railings, and privacy screens. What’s more, they offer landscaping and outdoor kitchens—perfect for your decking project!

Another thing we like is their showroom, located at St. Mary’s Road. It’s a unique feature since not all deck builders in Winnipeg have one.

Furthermore, a visit to the showroom also works out well for Winnipeggers. It allows you to check the material quality, which is ideal before committing to a costly project.

From a visual standpoint, we commend Deck City for their aesthetically pleasing deck designs. In our opinion, their strict process and work plan add to the functionality and attractiveness.

Plus, we appreciate the free consultations at their showroom. Some deck builders don’t offer free consultations, so this is a massive plus!

However, we heard reports about expensive design fees, which some clients mentioned the showroom staff offer with the supposed free consultation. So, the expensive rates and inconsistent customer service are a downside.

On a positive note, they customize all their designs for each home. What we like about it is you can be sure your new deck is unique!

In addition, we admire them for offering three or more design proposals. It allows clients to choose one that will work with their budget range.

A small downside is Deck City is unavailable on weekends. But they accept appointments outside their regular hours, which we find helpful.
