That said, we like how proactive their lawyers are in conducting full reviews early in the process and actively identifying risks before closing rather than getting caught off guard at the last minute. This means you can avoid delays, failed closings, or costly legal disputes. 

If you do get into deeper disputes, we’re glad that they provide in-house litigation, so they can represent your case without having to refer you elsewhere. 

But we did note some reports of slow responses, especially with sudden follow-ups. You’ll probably have to call in first thing to avoid busy lines. 

Nonetheless, they’re a reliable team that can assist you with residential, commercial, leasing, financing, and even business-related real estate matters.

Speaking of due diligence, we found that they’re known for delivering detailed status certificate reviews. It’s crucial to be proactive and thorough, especially in condo purchases, to uncover financial or legal red flags. 

On top of that, the firm usually works closely with all parties involved in the transaction so that all documents, funds, and timelines are in order. 

The hitch? They exclusively focus on real estate and don’t provide other legal services outside this area, including litigation. You might have to look elsewhere if you need multi-disciplinary legal support. 

Still, we can’t deny that their specialization in this field gives them the edge of being highly familiar with the nuances and the risks involved in real estate and condo transactions.

Their team can manage the full cycle of your transaction, reducing your worries. You can rely on them for agreement review, title searches, mortgage coordination, and final registration. 

And given how conveyancing involves significant financial risks, it’s reassuring to know that they safeguard client interests at every stage, like contract review and fund handling. 

We also love that they have the tools to streamline the closing process, especially with systems designed to handle document preparation, title transfer, and registration.

On the flipside, we came across some frustrations with their responsiveness, specifically unreturned calls and emails. We found that they’re a smaller firm, so peak hours may affect their availability. 

The silver lining? Besides real estate transactions, the firm can also assist you with other legal concerns, such as wills and estate, family law, and business law—a win if your case overlaps with these fields.

Right off the bat, we like that Cohen LLP, Barristers & Solicitors has helped complete a high volume of residential real estate deals for over 20 years. In other words, the firm is exposed to all sorts of transactions, cases, and deals, allowing it to provide more refined services.

For instance, their team is well-equipped to cater to different client types, including first-time buyers, investors, and even corporate relocation clients. 

We also find it beneficial that they actively collaborate with all stakeholders, lenders, and real estate agents involved in the transaction for better alignment of timelines and documentation. 

Here’s the thing, though: we feel a bit iffy after hearing complaints regarding unresponsiveness and urgency with follow-up concerns. Most of which are due to busy lines, so it’s best to call early in the day. 

On a positive note, their services are comprehensive, handling purchases, sales, and refinancing without requiring external providers.

The cool thing about Real Estate Lawyers.ca LLP is that they bank on remote signing, digital workflows, and structured systems to process transactions efficiently, including video-based closings. Thanks to their technology, there’s less delay and fewer administrative bottlenecks.

With that, you can work with them completely remotely via video signing or mobile service. It’s a big win if you’re outside Toronto and need closings to happen without compromising your schedule. 

The drawback? They don’t focus on in-person meetings, so this might not be the best pick for clients who aren’t used to technology and digital alternatives. Their client portal is a nice touch, though, especially if you want to manage transactions and track progress at any time.

Lastly, we do love that their systems are designed for convenience and straightforward purchases, sales, and refinancing, particularly for standard transactions. This approach makes the process faster, simpler, and less of a hassle.
